Ed passed away on May 19, 2024, after an eight-year battle with cancer. He faced his illness with remarkable courage, never letting it diminish his creative spirit. Ed Hall’s journey in art began at The University of Florida, where he earned a Master’s degree in Fine Art and contributed political cartoons and illustrations to The Florida Independent Alligator, UF’s school newspaper. His career saw him working for various weekly publications around Jacksonville before finding a long-term home at The Baker County Press in Macclenny, where he served as the weekly cartoonist for many years.
Hall’s work reached a national and international audience. His cartoons and political illustrations appeared in prestigious publications such as The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Tallahassee Democrat, and The New York Times’ Scope Magazine. He also made appearances on CNN Headline News. In 2003, Hall joined Artizans, a Canadian syndicate, which allowed his cartoons to be featured in newspapers across North America. His archive at Artizans includes over 5,000 cartoons, a testament to his prolific and influential career.
