To provide for his family, Aranda ventured to the Middle East, engaging in advertising and commercial illustration. Upon returning to Manila in the late 1980s, he contributed to publications like Philippine Graphic and The Philippine STAR. In 1987, he became the chief editorial cartoonist for The Philippine STAR, a position he held for 33 years. His tenure was marked by a prolific output of editorial cartoons and comic strips, including “Prof” in The STAR, “Sports Manny” for Pilipino Star Ngayon, “Tanong Tanod” for PM, and “Pinong Sipag Newsboy” for the Sunday cover of PSN.
