Mad magazine’s perpetual cover boy made his first run for the presidency in December 1956, pitting himself against Dwight Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson, as a write-in candidate. (He was a little late; the election happened in November.) Undeterred, he has returned repeatedly since.
