Toons Mag, the internationally acclaimed online cartoon magazine, proudly celebrates its 15th anniversary this November. Founded by renowned cartoonist Arifur Rahman, Toons Mag has grown from a visionary idea into a global platform that fosters creativity, supports cartoonists, and champions freedom of expression across continents.
A Journey from Bangladesh to the World
In 2007, Arifur Rahman envisioned a cartoon magazine in print to showcase the talents of cartoonists in Bangladesh. Recognizing the challenges and costs associated with print media, especially when starting alone, he pivoted towards the digital realm. On October 25, 2009, www.toonsmag.com was launched, with an official inauguration on November 1, 2009. This strategic move not only overcame geographical and financial barriers but also opened doors to a broader international audience.
A Global Platform in Multiple Languages
Toons Mag has transcended linguistic boundaries by publishing content in multiple languages, including Bengali, Hindi, Spanish, Arabic, Norwegian, and English. This multilingual approach has enabled the magazine to reach diverse audiences and promote cross-cultural understanding through the universal language of cartoons and comics.
Championing International Collaboration and Exhibitions
Over the past 15 years, Toons Mag has organized numerous international cartoon contests and exhibitions, collaborating with esteemed organizations in Norway, Sweden, Slovakia, India, Croatia, Bangladesh, and Morocco. Some of the notable events include:
- Children in War International Cartoon Contest and Exhibition (2015): Held in Norway and Sweden, this exhibition highlighted the plight of children affected by war.
