Schrödinger’s cat

Schrödinger's cat Schrödinger’s cat

Schrödinger’s cat is a sealed box containing a cat, a flask of poison, and a radioactive source. If an internal sensor (such as a Geiger counter) detects radioactivity (i.e., a single atom decaying), the flask shatters, unleashing the poison that kills the cat.

According to the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum physics, the cat is both alive and dead after a while. By looking inside the box, however, one sees the cat either alive or dead, not both alive and dead.

This raises the question of when quantum superposition ends and reality settles into one of two possibilities.
Schrödinger’s cat is a thought experiment in quantum physics that shows a paradox of quantum superposition. A hypothetical cat may be used in the thought experiment.
