morin Jim Morin was born January 30, 1953 in Washington D.C. He started drawing cartoons at the age of seven, taking as his initial influences the work of Walt Disney, Jay Ward, and Bill Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The social and political upheaval during the 1960s prompted an interest in current events. Upon graduation, Morin began his editorial cartooning career at the Beaumont (TX) Enterprise and Journal and the Richmond (VA) Times-Dispatch. In December, 1978, he joined the staff of The Miami Herald. His cartoons are syndicated internationally by King Features. Jim Morin’s many honors include the 1996 Berryman Award from the National Press Foundation, 1992 National Cartoonist Society Award, Overseas Press Club Awards in 1979 and 1990, and numerous others. He was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 1977 and 1990. Morin is the author of three books: Famous Cats, Jim Morin’s Field Guide to Birds, and a political cartoon collection, Line of Fire.
